ghost warrior's Review of NightForce ATACR 4-16x42mm Rifle Scope, 34mm Tube, First Focal Plane

The ATACR 4-16x42 is my first FFP optic from NightForce. I have other SFP NightForce optics as well as several Leupold, Valdada, Vortex, and Schmidt & Bender on a wide range of calibres. I chose this unit because of its more compact nature as compared to larger objective lense models. Installed it with a pair of NightForce Ultralight 6-bolt rings to my new Rhino Arms RA-5R DMR 6.5 Creedmoor AR platform. The combination of optic to weapon is very nice. Proportionally, the more compact scope fits quite well on the rifle platform and fulfills that aspect perfectly. The 6 bolt Ultralight rings from NightForce are great, very robust. Will probably change to a Spuhr unimount in the future. Personal preference really, the NightForce rings are very high quality though. I chose the MIL-R reticle this time and am very happy with that. I prefer the MSR reticle in my S&B glass but I have gotten use to this one quickly. Speed of target ranging is very similar to the MSR reticle. The clarity of the glass is superb. While I am still partial to my S & B, so far I prefer the ATACR over my Mark VIII CQB Leupold for clarity as well as color transmission. Fairly equally matched to similar Vortex glass. The 34mm tube gives me the range of adjustment I was going for and could push it more by changing mounts in the future. FOV is a bit wider than larger objective lense but that is what I wanted. Eye relief is no problem, ergonomics to the Magpul adjustable butt stock are superb on the AR platform. Overall, very happy with this NightForce product for the application I designated it for.

  • Excellent clarity
