There is affordable night vision - NightStar 1x20mm Head Mounted Night Vision Binoculars

These are awesome! Way better then I thought. I'm doing this to help because I couldn't find any information or pics that showed the quality. I had to gamble, and well I'm glad I did. Everything is digital in the $500 range. No options for tubular without spending $1500 at least. Except this Gen 1 plus, 44 degrees of view, and 1 x 20 night vision right here. They are good. I've been walking all around my house and outside. lol. ONLY complaint and your toughest challenge will be, mounting this to your helmet. I had to customize a bracket as best as I could.
