Old Man's Review of Nikon FX1000 6-24x50SF Rifle Scope w/ Illuminated Reticle

Had the scope about a week, long enough to install it on an AR-10 of known accuracy, one moa. Zeroed at 100 yards, and shot the box, top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left, and back to top left. Three rounds were fired at each of the 4 corners with a total of 6 at the top left. MRAD adjustments proved to be accurate and repeatable. This portion of the test was shot at 6 power. Shot the same test at 12 power, then 18, then at 24. Scope adjustments proved to be accurate and repeatable at all powers. The above tests proved the accuracy of the scope to me. I’ve shot rifles with $3,000 scopes and they were no more accurate than this Nikon black FX 1000. So with the accuracy portion out of the way, here comes the “other stuff”. Nikon is known worldwide for the quality of their camera lenses, and I can report that I am well satisfied with the glass in this scope. While I have not yet had the opportunity to shoot longer distances or under low light conditions, I can see no indications that the scope would not perform well. The scope has an illuminated reticle with abundant levels of illumination. Between each level the lighting is turned off, so that the operator can park the rotary switch adjacent to the anticipated lighting intensity. The switch is located outboard of the parallax adjustment on the left turret, and the battery is also located on the end of that turret. Parallax is adjusted by a rotary dial adjoining the left side of the main tube. Unlike some scopes that say they have a definate “zero stop”, this scope really has, and it works as advertised. This feature is one I consider to be very important. Additionally the turrets have a tactile feel when adjusting for windage or elevation. The reticle can fe focused using the adjustment ring on the rear of the scope. Nikon has essentially a “forever” warranty, and the company has a good reputation. If you expect to visit the sand box or a climate like Vietnam, by all means get that $5,000 scope system, otherwise it appears to me that this scope will definately fill my needs. Time will tell, but since I don’t shoot a hundred or more rounds per day, I think this scope will do nicely for me, and I will bet it can fit your needs too.
