Most Helpful Positive Review Great binoculars, horrible rain guards and case
Like the other reviewer stated the eye cup covers (rain guards) from Nikon are completely worthless. I have a pair of $75 Nikon Aculons that have the same rain guards. I could see the Aculons coming with these cheesy rain guards but not the Monarchs. Also the carry case it comes in is pathetic. You ...

Most Helpful Negative Review Beware! Refurbished product.
Ordered as "Demo, New" and followed with a call to confirm that. Told yes, as described. Expected lightly handled new pair. Received today, box clearly labeled "refurbished product." I will be returning, not interested in a refurb with a 90 day warranty (not sure if Nikons no fault policy applies).

Happy with choice

by Katy, from CA, United States Written on June 30, 2020
I debated (after much research) whether to purchase the Monarch7 8x42 or the Vortex Viper 8x42. Unable to try them (thank you COVID-19), I took the plunge and ordered the Monarch7. My son has a pair of Vortex he uses for hunting and they are also good. But, I like the feel of the Monarchs and the brightness. Many reviews of the Monarchs say the objective lens cover doesn't fit, but mine fit snugly. The eyepiece lens cover fits loosely, but is attached to the strap. I wouldn't want that cover to fit snug. It swings off when I lift the binoculars up to my eyes. So, all is great! I went with the 8x versus the 10x because of the larger FOV and to reduce shake.
Pros:
  • Bright & clear
  • focus wheel feels great
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Birding
  • Planet viewing

I’m glad I bought!

by JLJGT, from KS, United States Written on April 8, 2018
I already had a couple old binoculars. A 7x35 wide view and a pair of 8-24x50 with zoom. I thought I was good, but I had no idea what I was missing. These Monarch 7’s are such an improvement. I didn’t realize how much brighter they would be. Early morning or late evening, in low light conditions, I can see so much more than I ever realized was out there. Also, I never realized that the adjustable eye cups would make such a difference. No more removing my glasses to use the binoculars. The Monarch 7’s were a little pricey, but after using them, I have no regrets.

Good but not Great!

by cutback, Verified Owner from OR, United States Written on March 27, 2018
Ordered a pair of these and thought they would be exactly what I wanted.
After receiving, I set up a viewing comparison to compare a pair of New Nikon 5 10x42 ED against these. One object was 212yds, one @ 1.5 miles and last @ 30 yds (dollar bill test) Right away, I thought they were not as crisp as the Nikon 5. Resolution and clarity was slightly better on the 5 with ED glass.
Finally, I enlisted the help of a friend and grabbed my spouse to have them do the same test, with out telling them my results...
Last, the dollar bill test @ 30yds. All of us graded them the same. With in 30 minutes, they were on their way back for an exchange. Hopefully, this was just an example of a pair that slipped through QC.....

Great binoculars

by Corn, from WV, United States Written on July 19, 2017
I agree with the majority of other reviewers, these binoculars are wonderful. I'll only raise a few points I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere:

The binoculars have a standard 1/4-20 thread on the front of the center hinge for tripod mounting. It amazes me that higher end binoculars (e.g Leica Trinovid) lack this feature.

The case is a poor design, it uses velcro instead of a bungee hook and eye to close the flap. It's way too loud to open and close while hunting in stock form, you'll have to modify it.

The objective lens covers are good, the eye cup lens covers are not; they fall off too easily and appear to be an afterthought.

This is on great pair of binoculars at a even better amazing price from optics planet. Now my go to first web site. I bought a pair of 10 x 42 Monarch 7's for varmint hunting and was satisfied with them. These are for deer hunting and just the like the other pair exceed expectations.

Great binocs

by Beka, from AZ, United States Written on April 28, 2017
I've had other similiarly priced binoculars, but when I first looked through these I was amazed at the clarity and light. They are great and I am very pleased. The focus is easy and I really like the fact that the lens covers are attached, though the ones for the eye cups are quite floppy and don't stay in place.

Highly recommended binoculars!!

by JohnR, from FL, United States Written on January 7, 2017
We bought these because of a recommendation from a National Geographic trip we were taking. We couldn't be happier! The image quality and brightness is spectacular. They are a decent size, not small but not overly large. Color accuracy is superb. I'm sure we'll be happy with these for years to come.
Pros:
  • Brightness
  • Image and clarity
  • color accuracy
Cons:

Great equipment.

by LJ, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on November 20, 2016
beautifully constructed, solid, great optics. 8x better than 10x for birding due to field of view and shake issues. I have and love both M7 versions. Holds settings and has very good eye relief. Just plain feels great to hold and use.

compare to others In the same price range, these were the best choice.
Use theme for hunting and they are very good in low sun light (early morning and late afternoon)
not to big, and easy to carry in a back-pack

excellent optics

by Mary, from ON, Canada Written on September 5, 2014
I bought these binoculars for bird watching. The optics are great and I love how well you can see in low light situations.

The eye cup covers however are virtually useless. So bad that I thought at first we must have been sent a display model and they just grabbed whatever cover they could find. But after checking online, I realized that this has been complained about before and is something Nikon should really address. I'd give this item 5 stars if it wasn't for the eye cap cover.
