When you focus the first time after it has not been used over night, it is a bit sticky. After that it is smooth. I suspect the O ring seal is breaking in. It is a very minor fault in a superior product. I wear it around my neck. It is readily available, I can use it without taking my glasses off, it focusses well, the entire image is crisp and clear to the edges, and it goes everywhere with me on walks, hikes, and mountain bike rides. The close focus is really handy where observing hummingbirds on my home feeders.

Comments on Nikon 5x15 High Grade Monocular
My comments are based on having used the monocular twice since I received it and never using a monocular before. I have several Nikon products, including a pair of outstanding binoculars (lower power), but high quality).
I bought the monocular for use in museums. Based on two visits to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston to look at their collection of Hokusai prints, I would say that the monocular performed well. It was easy focus after getting used to the device and it magnified well. I could get to within a bit less than 2 feet to see the object I was looking at. This was a challenging exhibit in which to use a monocular since the light level was low to preserve the paper. So at times, the low light made it more difficult to see the objects with the monocular. My 4-star rating is based is this limited experience. After further use, I will update my comments if need be.
My interaction with Optic Planet was excellent. I needed help to answer a question about completing the transaction and the person at Optics gave a good answer, so the rest went smoothly.

Nikon 15 x 5 High Grade Monocular
Top notch product. Excellent field of view, solidly built. I do survey work and this is a great tool that just slips into your chest pocket.

a miniature telescope
Except for the insecure eyepiece cap, which is not a snug fit, this monocular is always a joy to use. It is virutally as sharp a my Nikon 8x32 SE binoculars, but weighs almost nothing. Perfect for butterflies and flowers.

Brilliant bit of kit
Bought one of these handy monoculars a year ago to keep an eye on our gaot herd. We now use it for that and so much more. It is super quick to use and can be focused with the one hand.
My Father is so impressed, he wants one to watch the birds in his garden.
Pros: Compact, lightweight, single hand use.
Cons: There are no cons.
