Bought this to replace an older model Nikon I had lost. The Prostaff was cheaper(Optics Planet had the best price) than my older Nikon. The 3i is quicker to range and offers horizontal distancing availability as well as distance selectivity(near or far averaging). It will also range automatically as you scan the area. Don't know what else you need. Great piece for the money.

I purchased the nikon 3i rangefinder December 2015. I use it for archery target and 3d shooting. It worked excellent in all situations.
I an a member at our local archery club and use it on their range from 20 to 80 yards with no problem.
I would suggest a set of binoculars or monocular small telescope to see your target results. I just purchased the celsetron ultima 80 spotting scope to bring to the target range. Can not wait to use it with other members.

I was not able to purchase the prostaff 3i in Australia so I placed my order through optics planet. The item arrived in 8 days, I was very impressed. This has been my first purchase of a range finder and am amazed at how easy, accurate and reliable it is. It's easy to switch between yards and meters, and distance modes (1st and distant target).

I can't comment on previous experiences as I have not owned a laser range finder - however the positive reviews for the 3i quickly saw me purchase it. I live on quite bare country and I've been able to range close to 300m on flat paddocks. When using tree's or shrubbery as an object to range I can consistently measure between 300-500m. I have set up a small cardboard square (3ft x 3ft) and easily ranged it at 360m.

I am only shooting small bore (223) so I have no doubt that the 3i will measure distances out to 350m accurately and consistently on fox sized targets. All in all I'm very impressed with this unit - would purchase again!

I debated for a while between the 3i and the Arrow ID for use while bow hunting. The one significant difference I feel is that the arrow ID claims to be waterproof while the 3i is rain resistant. That being said I feel both units are nearly identical. The optics are very clear and very easy to find your target in. I also plan on using this for golf and don't see why it wouldn't perform just as well. I also purchased the Nikon retractable tether and it seems to be of good construction. It is plastic, but the retracting spring is very strong, holding the rangefinder in place until ready for use. My simple solution for waterproofness was a small pelican case similar in size. The rangefinder itself is very small and fits into a pocket and your hand easily. If you're debating between a unit that has ID technology, I'd recommend this unit. I also measures the unit against known distances and it appears to be very accurate.
