Great performance and light weight

by Paul, from CO, United States Written on January 21, 2019
I need a scope that is very portable, I hike for up to a mile to get to my raptor monitoring sites. I did side by side comparisons with Leica and Swarovski scopes, both of them 65 mm ( or close), both of them much heavier, both of them at least five times the price. The Leica was better (the Leica is better than everything else I’ve ever seen and it’s not close), but the Nikon Prostaff 5 was every bit as sharp and bright as the Swarovski. I organize raptor tours and I routinely check out all the scopes that people show up with: Pentax, Kowa, Vortex, pretty much everything. The margin in value between the Nikon and all the others is huge.
Pros:
  • Light weight and excellent portability
Cons:
  • Completely worthless protective sleeve
Best Used for:
  • hiking

Review of Nikon Prostaff 5 Field Scope

by Colin, Verified Owner from IL, United States Written on October 8, 2014
Pros: Good clear picture, large focal lens, and crisp focusing.
Cons: No tripod, base for tripod has two support points but I can't find a Nikon adapter for it. Most annoying is that the lens caps pop off with the slightest bump, and I don't think they make any other types of lens caps in this size.
