Most Helpful Positive Review Bigger is better
great detection, bigger size makes it easier to carry Pros: bigger steadier Cons: not as much mag as 440
Most Helpful Negative Review Very disppointed
I have used a Nikon 500 rangefinder on the golf course and had no trouble isolating a flagstick to get distance. The 550 Green is virtually unusable. I'd like to return it. Pros: Ease of operation Cons: Can't pick up a flagstick. Nikon 500 was much more useful.

prostaff 550 range finder

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from MD, United States Written on January 21, 2011
I am a shotgun and muzzle load hunter from MD. The land is totally flat and do not need to use the altitude compensator on more expensive units. 200 yds is the longest shot that I would consider and the pro staff meets all my requirements. Very satisfied with this purchase.
Pros: quick to find distance, easy to operate, good size for the hand, actually better than the smaller units, especially good in the distance zone up to 250 yds
Cons: battery quit after 2 weeks. Do no know if this was an old battery, a poor designed shutoff system or if the on button was forced on when it was stored in the auto glove box. Will take more time to determine f this was a one off or if it has a problem

I was impressed with this range finder the minute I opened it up. It was very easy to set up and start using. Very crisp and clear view and very fast aim and range. Not a lot of bells and whistles. Simple.

Nikon ProStaff 550 Laser Rangefinder

by Ekw, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on December 28, 2010
Great simple model, one push to turn on, one to read. Great being light and small, but almost so small it's hard for me to hold steady. Guess that's worth the tradoff. Water resistant is great, heavy rain didn't ruin or fog it.
Pros: Small, Simple, Reliable, Water Resistant
Cons: Almost too small to hold steady
