I recieved this tripod as a gift with a Nikon 80 spotting scope. The tripod sold as the appropriate mate for the scope though it's quick release mounting feature introduces a frustrating amount of "wiggle" between the scope foot and the tripod head. There is no option to mount the scope directly ...

Nice tripod, about what I expected for the price. Not SUPER steady, but do you want to lug around a 20 lbs, $$$ pod?
Pros: Well constructed, lightweight
Cons: None considering the price
Would recommend: Yes

First, OpticsPlanet saved me by standing behind the product. I returned for a full refund because it arrived with the mounting base broken from the head at the tilt joint. The joint is a plastic piano hinge arrangement that would never take the stress of a spotting scope in the field or a camera of any significance. The price is enticing and the tripod legs appeared to be adequate for light duty work. But, the head is not up to the quality expected from Nikon.
Pros: Inexpensive and appears stable
Cons: Head is poorly designed plastic and arrived broken
Would recommend: No

probably okay for a camera or a light pair of binocs but don't even think about mounting a spotting scope to it - cannot hold the scope, too much time trying to get an object into view... too difficult to adjust.
Pros: nice, light, easy to set up
Cons: can't handle a swarovski spotting scope... the head is terrible with a heavy scope

I don't feel that Nikon really put much oversight into the production of this Chinese made tripod.
The quality is marginal for the money paid. The plastic crank handle looks like a major weak point.
The all plastic camera mounting platform is set into a thin vertical aluminum tube on a plastic stud and then fastened through the tube with a drift pin. There is play in the head and tube becuse of this pin that I beleive will result in vibration in high wind and possible movement when depressing a shutter on a camera.
I plan to knock out the pin and replace it with a bolt and nut or possibly a hose clamp so that I can squeeze the tubing tight to the stud and eliminate the slop.
Pros: Light weight, nice finish.
Cons: Too much play in camera mounting plate inside vertical tube.
Would recommend: No

I purchased the Nikon Slik Full Size Tripod (7074) just before the beginning of last years hunting season. I have an adapter for my Nikon Monarch 10x42 bino's and use them as a spotting scope. The tripod is very adjustable and nice Realtree camo finish. A good value in my opinion.
Pros: Full height tripod, ,use for scope, bino's or camera
Cons: none
Would recommend: Yes
