Scott B's Review of NOCPIX 4x50mm VISTA H50R Rangefinding Thermal Monocular

This is my first NocPix product. I have owned Armasight, AGM, ATN, and Pulsar thermal products in the past. The product I purchased was the H50 with a native Four-power magnification. I found the product to be relatively light, given its magnification and the images to be very high quality and stable at temperatures from roughly 60° to well over 100°. System downloads are easily accomplished through the type C connector and the app and drivers load flawlessly. Execution of data retrieval could not be simpler. With regard to cons, I can only find two: The lens cap for the objective lens rotates around the lens for convenience. When opening however, the type of plastic "belt" that is used around the lens to secure the cover it is weak and cracked after only a few weeks of use. Although this is not a deal breaker, it is a little annoying in that it should not happen, it does not affect the operation of the device at all, but it does expose the germanium lens when the cover is not in place -- The other con is that the microphone is on the "hot" side. That is to say, if you speak in a normal voice while narrating a video, the audio will have a tendency to distort. This needs to be fixed by NocPix by simply reducing the gain of the microphone. The pallete colors are well-thought-out and work exceptionally well. Detail is excellent and the way the focus is set up allows the user to obtain an extremely fine focus in that the objective lens needs to be turned a significant amount to obtain focus. This allows for much more precise imaging at any distance. Close focus is also excellent and highly resolute. Battery life is fairly strong and easy to Install and remove however, as I am not a big fan of custom battery compartments , I am extremely happy with the fact that this device can be powered with an external battery pack and a type C connector..... this is extremely important because the device can be powered in this way even if no battery is present, which is a big advantage over other products, like ATN. I would, without hesitation, purchase this product again. Lastly, I would say that the new firmware updates allow for much, much more versatility than the standard Vista product initially. This includes options to downgrade the magnification to 3X and now includes the ballistic calculator function into the monocular itself. This is a welcome addition, however, the purchaser should be aware of the fact that none of these additions are referenced in the supplied instruction manual.
