El Segundo's Review of OPMOD Limited Edition GEN 3 Pinnacle PVS-14 Night Vision Monocular

1 x OP Exclusive - OPMOD Limited Edition GEN 3 PVS-14 Pinnacle Night Vision Monocular,Green Phosphor,Charcoal, OPMODPVS14G
SKU: 99-NV-OPMOD-G3PVS14-OPMODPVS14G7
The first scope was returned 5 years old from manufacturer date, it was tuned wrong or had been damaged-it require full gain to produce a reasonable image for the ITT Pinnacle GEN 3 thin filmed Auto gate device.
The 2nd scope is definitely used. I took it to a local expert and this is his determination. The scope has hundreds of hours on it. The objective lens cap is very well worn so much so it slides easily onto the devise and will sit oblique to a 90 degree mating easily. When the se scopes an new, the tolerances are so tight it takes effort to get them on and take them off. The reason being is the scope will be damaged beyond usability if that cap comes off accidently in sunlight.
The objective lens focusing rings turns extremely easily. It is not tight and a little resistance to rotation, thi one spins with one finger anywhere on the ring.
The exterior anodized aluminum has been touched un with a sharpie black ink pen. The various rings and edges of both the hard plastic and aluminum have been well worn. It is eident on the edges of the device. These are worn contact points from general use, securing and unsecuring if a protective jacket was ever deployed, it has be2en knocked around visable by chipped platic rings and is not all that clean. The numerical graduation points on the rings have dirt in them and are worn on the edges of the imprints.
The eye piece is brand new. The packaging is brand new with one exception. The small dacron black line used to make a light weight strap so it can be worn around the users neckwas attached to the PVS 14 prior to shipment. . The line shows signs of wear and was mounted and used prior to receiving it. It is shows signs of use but has weathered less than expected based on what is seen on the OPMOD scope itself. Instead of a typical Dacron synthetic or high modulus blended materiel, this strap appears every way to be a generic shoe lace complete with the plastic tipped ends. It is tied onto the scope in a fashion I have never seen before with the line being farlead through eyelets and finally attaching to the objective lens cap.
(All the items below are easily visible at night while looking through the intensifier tube using the PVS 14 like a typical end user would do. The reported “new” ITT Pinnacle is a stellar tube design with 3rd generation build technology auto gated with a thin film. The PVS14 should be extremely impressive to the average user, or anybody for that matter this particular unit is well worn and unimpressive)

The OPMOD PVS14 optics review and condition report 00192190
The optics show extensive signs of use and mishandling. There are thousand of small back dots that create a shaded area and cause a miniature “Milky Way” like we see in our solar system at night. The findings occur in a 9 o’clock position to a six o’clock position (Aspect is relative to eye piece fixture using left eye) and occurs for approximately 15 percent of the surface area of the visible tube. This particular flawed area is approximately 3/8 of an inch away from the outer most ring visible to the user anytime.
There are thousands of black dots over 100 percent of the scopes viewing are.
There are at least 30 significant black dot findings in the middle 30% of the scope where you would expect the sight device of a rifle would occupy. These spots are significant enough to cause distraction from point of impact adjustments. Valuation on the used market would be between 1100 to 1400.00 in the current condition.

This is not a repotted reconditioned unit
Pros:
  • The ITT Pinnacle tube is impressive when new
Cons:
  • This unit had heavy use but the shoe lace was in ok condition
