Wendell Sawyer's Review of Meprolight OPMOD M22 1x28mm Reflex Red Dot Sight
First let's take a look at the good of this optic. It's light weight compared to others in it's size category. It mounts up really solid. In the sunlight the reticle is bright and crisp.
Now the bad... The reticle is very visible in low light situations. Typical indoor lighting doesn't come remotely close to providing good enough illumination to make the reticle useful. Making the purchase of the Light Panel kit a necessity and not an option, if you plan to do any type of indoor shooting. However that opens up another can of worms. In that those tiny T7 Torx screws are on there tight. The included tool that comes with the kit seems to only serves to strip the screw heads. Finally after a lot of frustration and curse words I have the panels off. It is then I notice the light panels are a different profile which IMHO clutters the view. I swear it looks like looking at the rear end of one of those new Vettes, or some super car. The light module provides 3 levels of brightness with the 2 highest having a noticeable bloom. If you're familiar with the M21 you know those things were rock solid and built like a tank. While I haven't done any extreme testing with the M22 it just seems like a poor knock off.
Given the price of the optic, especially with the added cost of the light module I cannot recommend it. There are just too many better options available at or below the price of this.
