Defective out of the box - SIG SAUER OPMOD Romeo5 1x20mm 2 MOA Dot Compact Reflex Red Dot Sight

I had high hopes for this optic based on all the positive reviews that I have seen/read. Opening the box you notice that they took time to showcase this optic very well. Everything is organized and laid out. Examining the OPMOD Romeo5 before installing on my rifle and everything looked good, I didn’t expect there would ever be an issue. Everything functions well and the motion on/off is a great feature. When I finally got to installing the lower1/3 co-witness riser is where the problem arose. When tightening the 4 screws on the bottom of the riser to the optic itself, all 4 screws just kept spinning and spinning (like they were never engaged in the threads). I use a wheeler torque wrench set at 12in/lbs so nothing too strenuous on the screws. Upon further investigation all 4 screws had stripped and also damaged the threads for the red dot as well. I confirmed this by trying to change the base to its factory (absolute co-witness) setting with different screws, and I could just pull the base off after the screws were “tightened” down. I have to say I was disappointed. Now I won’t say that this optic is a bad buy, as there are always lemons with every manufacturer regardless of price. I would still definitely recommend it on the fact that this is a defect from “SIG” (or whoever makes it for them) and more than likely it won’t happen to you. The fit and finish of this optic are great and I bet you would be reading another 5 star review if I wouldn’t have changed the mount. That said props to Opticsplanet for the speedy shipping and assistance with the return. Can’t say enough good about their customer service and their prices are unbeatable. They will always have me as a lifelong customer !
