Noah T's Review of PEET SafeKeeping Dryer

A few months ago, I'd been on a search to find a solution to control the humidity in one of my safes that required little to no input on my end. Originally, I just used some name-brand, fairly-inexpensive rechargeable desiccant packs, but, my issue with desiccant packs is that, if you're not frequently checking them or recharging them on a schedule, you won't know when to recharge them. This led me to look at some other solutions; one(s) that I could plug into an outlet and forget about.

The most recommended option was to purchase one of those humidity-controlling rods (a.k.a. golden rods), but I didn't like this option because of the amount of space the rods take up.

The next option that I came across was this PEET dryer, and, after some decision-making, I decided to go with this model, and, it has not disappointed me. When I received the dryer, I was a little concerned (and, also, annoyed) because the electrical plug at the end of the power cable comes disassembled, but, then, I realized that it's actually a genius move by the manufacturer, as, if you need to feed the cable through a safe wall, most safes only come with small holes in them to feed power cables through, and aren't large enough to fit the actual plug through. Aside from that one issue, this thing has been perfect. I've coupled it with a hygrometer (to monitor conditions), and, it's kept the temperature stable and the humidity at a reasonable level (in a climate-controlled environment), and I'm happy because I no longer have to worry about it, as long as the unit is on. I would definitely recommend this unit.

Just to add some notes:
I live in the Midwest. Hot, humid summers. Cold winters. Results may or may not vary, based on location.
Safe is stored indoors. Results may or may not vary, if placed in a garage.
This unit was used on a standard sized Liberty safe. Results may or may not vary, if used on a larger safe.
Pros:
  • very effective
  • Small footprint
  • low maintenance
  • Fairly Inexpensive
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • small safe
  • medium safe
