I have purchased several Penn reels in the past, none of which have had line counters. Recently I purchased two WAR30LWLC reels and neither of them had a working line counter that you could rely on. The reels themselves are great so what I did was to purchase the parts needed to remove the line counter from the reel and used metered braided line to verify the depth. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER PENN REEL WITH A LINE COUNTER. In addition I contacted Penn’s customer service but had to leave a message but I’ve never received a call in return. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
