Had one for >10 years now; it's a great all around scope especially for the money. - Pentax PF-80ED Spotting Scopes 80 mm 70930 / KU70114 80mm ED Glass

Simon520's Review of Pentax PF-80ED Spotting Scopes 80 mm 70930 / KU70114 80mm ED Glass
I'm an optics snob. Rangefinder is Leica; binoculars are Swarovski EL's. I know good glass. This scope has excellent glass and I was very happy to purchase it in 2001 for around $1100. There has been NO degredation, fogging, yellowing or any issues with the scope in the intervening years.
I used it initially for target spotting. Field of view is excellent and clarity is amazing. Even at full magnification the image is clear; usually mirage and other issues make me dial it back to 30x or so and it can still pick up bullet holes no problem.
Where this scope really shines things like skygazing. I had this thing for years before I realized it was not just a spotting scope but a "real" telescope. I make out the bands of Jupiter and its major moons no problem when the seeing is good. No wonder the birders rated it excellent and it was very highly rated. I've seen the high end Swarovski, Leica and other scopes and the Pentax is either equal/better to them or the improvement is so slight most folks would not notice.
