Pentax PF-80ED Spotting Scopes 80 mm 70930 / KU70114 80mm ED Glass
I'm an optics snob. Rangefinder is Leica; binoculars are Swarovski EL's. I know good glass. This scope has excellent glass and I was very happy to purchase it in 2001 for around $1100. There has been NO degredation, fogging, yellowing or any issues with the scope in the intervening years.
I used it initially for target spotting. Field of view is excellent and clarity is amazing. Even at full magnification the image is clear; usually mirage and other issues make me dial it back to 30x or so and it can still pick up bullet holes no problem.
Where this scope really shines things like skygazing....

This product looks good, feels good and presents a good picture up to 800 known feet . Have not tested beyond that. The 80 mm is the item purchased. Main reason for purchase was for digiscoping , wildlife observation since I am approaching 90 and don’t drive any more. Reaching optics planet for finding digiscoping adapter for this model has been unsuccessful. Much search has been done to find a sensible and working adapter has been unsuccessful. Prospective buyers should get answers about adapters before purchase and also find a different brand and seller before purchasing Pentax from optics planet. For sure. Find out about focal length and oversized outer eyepiece ring. BEWARE
Pros:
Good ergonomic design, appears sturdy, handles good and good image to 800 ft.
Cons:
Oversized outer ring on eyepiece, unknown who really made item, and lack of helpful response from optics planet. Prospective buyers not cautioned about difficulty finding adapter that readily works.
Would recommend: No
