Most Helpful Positive Review My second pair!
Bought these for my daughter. I love everything about these unique instruments, EXCEPT the carry case. The binocs barely fit inside, and one can’t close the cover when the strap is attached. For my own pair, I obtained an only slightly bigger case and that works fine. I was hoping these would come with an improved larger case. I will still show these off and recommend them to all me naturalist friends, but think about a better case please. Thanks

The Papilio II 8.5x21mm Porro Prism Binoc is great for close up bird and butterfly viewing and surprisingly good for longer viewing up into canopy of trees and across several hundred feet of distance landscape. Light weight and easy to quickly focus.
Pros:
  • easy focus and great close up viewing and moderate distance viewing!!!
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • close up and short long distances

Great Binoculars Papilio II 8.5x21

by BD, from WV, United States Written on December 28, 2020
I bought the 6.5 Papilio binoculars a couple of years ago, they weren't marked "I" or "II", I picked them knowing they would gather more light than the 8.5. They are excellent and open a new dimension in binoculars for close up viewing. Bugs and flowers are amazing to look at and I am not a bug and flower person. I do like to watch birds and the deer, squirrel, rabbits, etc. in my back yard and when I hunt. I had to try the 8.5s, to get an even closer view, I was not disappointed. Both pairs are best in daylight and not designed for dawn and dusk, the 8.5 are a little hard to hold as steady with the higher magnification but the views are amazing. They are not made for all around use but I think anyone who tries them will be impressed. Everyone I showed them to were amazed, they are like a microscope in your hands. If lost, broken, or stolen I would replace them. I can't brag on them enough. The only drawback is the strap is not comfortable on my neck, I haven't replaced them or added a pad.
Pros:
  • light weight
  • Amazing close view
  • Sharp clear focus
Cons:
  • Not waterproof
  • Uncomfortable strap
Best Used for:
  • Birds and Nature Observation
