I use a heavy Stihl helmet and screen visor for weed whacking and on-ground work. Those helmets do not work for tree work as well as they are heavy and have no chin strap, so they fall off if the ear protectors are not engaged. I was working with my arborists and noticed they all had the Petzel helmet assemblies. They were using the clear visor instead of the screen visor. I bought a helmet and had the screen visor at first but it was cumbersome and had poor visuals. The Sthil screen visors have a lot better see-through. So i bought the clear visor to give it a try. Amazing. No need to wear glasses. It has great coverage over the face and a tight fit to the helmet when closed so debris cannot get through the top. I got the clear lens. The visor snaps on and off the helmet easily and is more secure than the screen visor- probably due to its reduced size. I wouldn't use this set up for weed whacking, especially in the spring, because ,the visor would be completely coated with sticky debris.and would need constant cleaning. A screen visor with safety glasses is the ticket for heavy weed whacking. However, for tree and shrub work and overhead work, this is the best.
Pros:
- Light, easy to install and use
- good visibilty through lens
Cons:
- Not suitable for weed whacking
Best Used for:
- Tree and overhead work
Would recommend: Yes
