Rick's Review of Pearce Gun Grips PGAR15

The Pearce AR 15 grip simply is what it is. It is a grip that mounts on an AR 15, that allows the user to mount a pair of 1911 pistol grip panels on it, and thereby presents a different look than the normal AR pistol grip. This grip functions as advertised, and is of good quality. Be advised though, it is somewhat of a pain in the butt to mount on an AR due to the configuration of the mounting bolt, which only allows use of an allen wrench to tighten the bolt, and the design of the grip limits the movement of the allen wrench to approximately 1/8 turn. Then one has to remove the wrench, reposition it and take another 1/8 turn, so mounting can take a while and be a pain. Also, one must be prepared to modify the 1911 grip panels used on this grip, as the left grip panel will be in the path of the AR's safety selector, and the panel has to be modified before the safety selector will function properly. So be prepared to manually modify the grip panel you use by either a Dremel tool or other means to take off part of the top of the grip panel. The grips will not really be suitable for any further use on a 1911 after being modified for use on this grip. I used a pair of rubber grip panels after discovering the safety selector interference problem, and trimmed them with a sharp Exacto knife. Wooden grips or grips of other materials will require removal of a small area of the grip material at the front top of the left grip panel. With the price of some of the 1911 grip panels available today, one might well want to think twice before buying a new pair of "VZ Operator" gri-p panels or similar panels for use on this device. Had I known about the grip modification being required and the difficulty mounting the grip, I most likely would not have purchased it.
Pros:
  • Allows a different 'custom' look to an AR
Cons:
  • Difficult to mount
  • Requires permanent modification of the 1911 grip panel
Would Recommend: Yes
