Airedale's Review of Plano Field Locker Mil-Spec Single Long Gun Case, In

This gun case is long enough for a Remington 700 with a 26" barrel with a few inches to spare. I also have a bipod and a large scope on mine so it's a little tighter, top to bottom, but it works.

There are three layers of foam. The layer in the lid is soft and textured. The center and bottom layers are firmer and smooth. The manufacturer's intent is for you to leave the upper and lower layers alone and cut the center layer to fit your firearm. I was grateful that the center layer was firm because that made it much easier to cut with a sharp knife.

I took my time because there are no undos when cutting the foam. I had it cut in about 20 minutes and it fits my rifle perfectly. I shook the case and can't feel the rifle moving at all.

The four latches seem secure. The plastic exterior is thick and sturdy and the lid closes snugly. It's supposed to be watertight and I believe it.

The tag on the case says there is a limited lifetime warranty. I'm 60 years old and I do believe this case will outlive me.

The only negative is that it is bulkier and heavier than a soft case. Of course, a soft case won't protect your valuable rifle nearly as well. If I was too concerned about the weight, I wouldn't have a rile that weighs 10+ pounds with the scope and bipod.

I have no regrets about this purchase and Optics Planet had the best price on the web.
