Most Helpful Negative Review Bike 2nd time used

Not a solid rod. Tried to take a barrel nut off an AR. there is a mechanism inside the rod that raises a piece of metal meant as added security to keep the upper from spinning while working on it. Behind the star part that fits inside the barrel there is a pin. That pin is it's weak spot.

1. I was wrong on one point: the raised "fin" that slides into gas key channel is not needed for muzzle device installs. So for my purposes this rod is 100% usable. I like the materials and finish. Was able to install a brake and we had it in gnarly old vice without any vice inserts, and there wasn't any substantial damage in the alloy.

2. I've already returned one of these, so this is my second rod, in a different color. And it is STILL CLOCKED! Meaning that if you raise the "fin" and slide it into the upper, the star chamber lugs will not align with the chamber. Meaning you can't use it for other work, i.e. barrel installs. Like I said in my other reviews, I've tried in several different uppers, it's the tool, not the barrels. I have an "AR10" version of this same rod, and it fits properly. It's definitely the rod, not the uppers.

clocked, won't work for barrel installs

This tool is a huge help when working on the upper receiver of the ar15 platform. The price is one of the best I have been able to find online and local. I expected inferior product reference the low price compared to all others. I was surprised how well it’s built and the things you can do with this item. I will be looking for a AR10 platform in 308 cal. The website is easy to find items and to order with some really good sales.

Excellent product. Does exactly what it was intended to do without any issues or excess cost of unneeded features. Highly recommended. Do not hesitate because it is made from aluminum and not steel, it is hardened aluminum and hard coat annodized so it is more than sturdy enough for the intended job. A great product!

Other reviewers mentioned it. This reaction rod is "clocked" - with the raised "fin" it does not fit into the star chamber. My first thought was that my barrel was clocked, but I've tried it in 4 different uppers, and it's the same everywhere. I got a replacement, and it was identical. Without raising the index fin it "works", but then it has limited use, not what I needed. If you are removing/adding a muzzle device or replacing barrels, you need the "fin" to stabilize, and prevent putting stress on the upper.

Meanwhile I have the 308 version of this, and it fits just fine.
