Lazarus's Review of Pride Fowler Industries Rapid Reticle 5.56/7.62X51 3-12x42mm FFP 30mm Tube Rifle Scope

Excellent scope. Would be perfectly at home on any standard 5.56 or 308 AR platform, and has BDC calibration to boot.

Very clear glass. Crisp reticle, with guides for cqb use on low power. Pairs well with piggyback/offset optic.

Includes decent rings, though they’re a bit low on an Aero upper for my comfort. I opted for a high QD scope mount.

Eye box is tight at 12x, but generous enough with proper cheek weld. Illumination is for low light only, the blue/green isn’t anywhere near “daylight bright” as seems to be the present market demand, but really adds some contrast in dusk/darkness/dawn type scenarios. The green is brighter than the blue, but the blue is clearer at brighter light levels. This isn’t designed to be a cqb scope but it would work well at 3x in a pinch.

Which brings me to my one negative: if the point of the PFI Rapid Reticle is compensation out to max effective range, why the target style turrets? The BDC reticle has the information I need to make hits at range and in windy/dynamic situations, so why the tall turrets? It’s not like I’m adding clicks… The problem is how much of the sight picture they obscure while using an offset backup optic, like my Mbus Pro irons. They’re usable, but it’s close. Lower profile, “set and forget” type turrets would be much more appropriate. Will be reaching out to manufacturer to see if the option exists to convert these turrets to lower profile versions.

Speaking of the manufacturer, have been in contact for months now, asking questions, working out an exchange, excellent, old fashioned type customer service. I didn’t like their 1-6, but they understood my issues and gladly exchanged for this tube. Couldn’t be happier, thanks Rae!

Also eventually want to give the scope a go on my 16” 308 bolt action as well, see how the BDC stacks up at range out of a short barrel 30. Says in the manual it’s calibrated for 20” ish barreled 308’s, so we’ll see. Calibrated for 16” 5.56, mid weight ammo… perfect “light SPR” scope for a standard carbine setup. Put mine on an Aero build with Faxon Gunner Match barrel, will put it through it’s paces here before long.

Will update as needed, and with use, for now, first impressions, if the scope is built right and holds up, I foresee no issues.

Buy with confidence, a great higher powered optic in this price range, supported by a “call me on my cell” type company. Can’t wait to set up my 10/22 with their Rapid Reticle.
Pros:
  • easily adjustable
  • Clear glass & Reticle
Cons:
  • turrets too tall for POU of the optic
Best Used for:
  • target
  • Tactical
  • long range
