Gate's Review of Primary Arms SLx 4-14x44mm Rifle Scopes, 30mm Tube, First Focal Plane (FFP)
Overall quality looks ok: glass is clear, tracking not too bad (5% difference when comparing reticle markings movements and turrets clicks with scope locked on a vice) but ruggedness seems to depend of the unit you get. In my case, after having fired 400 rounds with a suppressed non-magnum rifle I noticed dramatic loss of zero hold. After ruling out the mount and pursuing my investigations I discovered that the all front lenses assembly got loose and was already quite unscrewed. It might have been possible to send the unit for a replacement but I live abroad and shipping would have been complicated. Furthermore the R-Grid reticle that it has (and that I love) seems to be discontinued; making replacement unlikely to happen. I then decided to try and fix it myself. I managed to disassemble the unit clean the lenses, purge with dry air, reset the parallax adjustment and seal back the wall thing. Has been working well since.
All in all it has been an interesting experiment to make such a “surgery” for my cared scope. But can I recommend this product? Quality wise unfortunately not…
