Qualtiy upper

by Kyle, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on March 6, 2026
I love PWS products. Very durable and accurate. The only downside to these uppers are they are definitely on the heavier side compared to traditional gas impingement. That's not deal breaker for me, just something to be aware of. This upper came with a PWS muzzle device designed for their suppressors neat that they included this my last upper came with standard muzzle brake. BTW their muzzle brake works well, but is very loud. Last thing is the cam pins on the BCGs don't seem to unlock fast enough on these uppers and I have had issues in the past where they contact the pocket inside the upper and can mar it up fairly bad. This is issue is pretty easily rememdied by replacing the cam pin with a Patriot Ordnance Factory roller cam pin. Great system for suppressing.
Pros:
  • well built
  • Accurate
  • Very reliable
Cons:
  • Heavy
  • Cam pin
Best Used for:
  • duty
  • Suppresed shooting

Fantastic Piston Upper

by RiceNRedBeans, Verified Owner from KS, United States Written on January 21, 2026
Some clarification for the consumer, the listed muzzle device is a little unclear. It IS an omnidirectional two port brake with Plan B compatibility. It has a wider bore over 556, but a good functional device nonetheless. In terms of a piston upper, this long stroke is arguably better than most short stroke pistons out there. Compared to the 516 G2 and Legacy MCX, it has a few advantage points. 1) The piston tube. The piston itself is nearly completely enclosed in a tube inside of the handguard. There is only a few small holes to bleed gas. This protects the piston from the environment and debris. Most short stroke pistons are completely exposed besides the handguard. 2) No additional springs. Nearly, if not all, short stroke pistons require an additional spring on the piston assembly. This long stroke piston design utilizes the buffer spring instead of a proprietary part. This significantly adds to the longevity of the product. Overall, the recoil is very light, it is less than short strokes of the same length and on par with tuned DIs, additionally my complete build weighs only 8 pounds with can and optic. It has very little gas in face when used suppressed. I highly recommend it.

Second One I Own

by BigMikeAtlas, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on February 14, 2025
This is the second Primary Weapons Systems (PWS) upper I own. My other one is a 300 Blackout. This .223 Wylde is for a new build I am finishing up. PWS makes a great reliable product. The accessible adjustable gas block is ideal and an added bonus for the future suppressor I will be adding to this build. This upper is well worth the price.

Extremely Accurate

by StronkTinman, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on November 21, 2024
Tested this upper receiver with over 500 hundred rounds on the first range trip with only a little lubricant on the bolt and some internals. The only issue that I had was a failure to feed on some steel case ammo that is over 20 years old. When using a suppressor, the upper ran very clean and well without any gas coming back in my face. I had to use setting 3 when running suppressed or the bolt would fail to go into battery
Pros:
  • Accurate
  • suppressor friendly
  • Lightweght
Cons:
  • None
