TX2A's Review of Primary Weapons Systems PWS Enhanced Buffer Tube, Mil-Spec Gen 2 Ratchet Lock Endplate

I purchased this set primarily for the lightweight buffer tube. It is amongst the lightest available at 3.1oz without using carbon fiber. The tube itself is well constructed with excellent threads and decent anodizing. Now for the cost, I wouldn't exactly go this route but as mentioned this is going on a lightweight build. In comparison to the V7 2055 (3.4oz) and 2A Armaments A5 (3.4oz) 6061 billet tubes, this one falls short. The finish is better on the other tubes and fitment with both MFT minimalist and B5 stocks are better. I cannot stand a sloppy fit and this one is borderline. It has some lateral movement as well as forward and backward once adjusted. This allows for rattle which is just annoying and honestly unacceptable at this price point. The ratcheting castle nut and endplate appear to be well made, but with all locking mechanisms, they are more of a gimmick than an actual solution. They ALL losen under moderate use, hence the need for proper torque and staking. One positive worthwhile mention is the inner surface is exceptionally smooth. I think if you are looking for a lightweight buffer on a budget the 2A Armament knocks it out of the park and if you want the best of the best V7 2055 is your go to. This tube is overpriced and PWS should offer the tube alone without forcing you to purchase their ratcheting system, but I guess that is the only way people would actually buy them. Maybe I am being too harsh, but I expected more based on all the reviews.
Pros:
  • Light , easy to mount and adjust. Works as intended
Cons:
  • cost
  • poor fit
  • Better option at the same price point
Best Used for:
  • Building AR platform rifles and pistols
