Sparky's Review of Primos Hunting Gunhunter's Vest

Bought a medium size last spring and used it for this fall Wisconsin gun deer season. Plenty of pockets and storage area's, some might say too many. The vest is a little heavy but I hunted from a tree-stand so it didn't matter. There's a slot opening in back for harness tether, very nice! Front cargo and hand warmer pockets roomy. I was able to store extra gloves, hat and neck warmer with ease. Internal pockets: two large lower are zippered/mesh, small uppers are elastic opening good for phone. Large rear storage pouch accommodated extra clothes which really came in handy for the 11 degree mornings. The biggest problems I see are the front buttons, rear nylon straps and drop down pad. I hunted four of the nine day season and two of the three buttons are about to fall off. One of two straps ripped out and the water proof pad is loud, especially when cold. Primos ships vest with red LED light, compass and thermometer; they're useful but are designed to hang outside of pockets. They clanged against rifle scope and against climbing tree stand during setup. I tried to stuff them into pockets but couldn't zip closed completely, not the end of the world but a noise consideration. Almost forgot the two rear pockets just behind arm openings; great for water bottles or narrow thermos and shooting sticks! With this vest I was able to eliminate hauling my backpack into the woods. Overall a good hunting vest at a bargain price, but needs some improvements. Eliminate the front buttons and replace with zipper, beef up the nylon straps and consider different material for drop down pad.
Pros:
  • roomy
  • plenty of storage space
  • Priced very nicely
Cons:
  • weak straps
  • buttons loosened up
  • internal pad noisy
Best Used for:
  • general hunting
