Jack's Review of ProMag Archangel Springfield Armory M1A Precision Stock

Not sure if I just got a lemon stock or what, but multiple people are saying this is an easy install. This was NOT and easy install by ANY stretch of the imagination, in fact I would say the stock I recieved simply isn't the right size for the M1A SOCOM 16 receiver. This was SO much more than just some quick filing to get it to sit right, I practically had to carve the stock on almost every internal surface to get a fit, took me at least 5 hours to do and I am not exaggerating at all. I've seen videos of people installing this easily and I just cant imagine how I could ever do that with what I have right now.

This was way more carving than I was expecting and it still doesn't sit right, I watched all the videos I could find, read many posts by other people to try and get this to work, and so far I've gotten the reciever to sit semi-flush and finally lock to the trigger group somewhat easily (still crazy tight). However now with the trigger guard closed the trigger group is being pushed too far up into the stock and is causing the bolt to slightly hang up on the hammer when racking the op rod. I know this probably isn't the end of the world and I might shoot it to see if it improves anything, but it doesn't do this in the OEM stock, and doesn't do it unless the trigger guard is squeezed shut. I'm at the point now where I don't think I can take any more material off the stock and still have the reciever sit flush when assembled.
Pros:
  • Looks great
  • feels great
  • Not very expensive
  • adjustable butt pad and cheek riser are good
  • larger foregrip helps to keep my fingers off the end of the op rod
Cons:
  • Ludicrously tight fit, like impossibly tight without major modification
  • still doesn't sit right, looks ok at distance but up close you can see some nasty gaps between the stock and reciever
  • causes interference with the bolt and the top of the hammer when tensioned
Best Used for:
  • Disappointment
  • filing and dremel practice
