maki's Review of ProMag Archangel Springfield Armory M1A Precision Stock

The paper instruction with the package sucks. mMke sure you go watch the promag install video, and there's another one where a promag guy was invited onto a youtube show to do the install.

The nylon stock is hygroscopic, and even in the promag install video, they mention there's a storage block that keeps the stock from shrinking around the well for the trigger group. However, if you have a stock that's been sitting around for a while, you may find that it takes more than just tapping the trigger assembly to seat properly. I had to file down the stock a bit around the back of the trigger because there was no way it was going in, even when using the supplied block and a mallet to tap the trigger group in.

This was on a springfield m1a, not a copy.

They also mention that you may have to carefully file down the stock near the pads for the trigger group. It's not hard, I went very carefully so I don't take too much material off at any one time.

So there's a lot of "see if the trigger guard can latch against the receiver, if not take a file and do a quick pass, check again and repeat as needed." Basically, go slow, and don't take too much material off at any given pass.

Once installed, the stock is good. The adjustments for the stock are tight, but not too tight. Very easy to get a good cheek weld after adjustment.
Pros:
  • Looks good
  • fits well after filing down the stock
  • cheek riser and pull adjustment good
  • rails on the bottom
  • qd sling mounts
Cons:
  • a bit heavy
  • requires careful filing down
  • no rails on the side
  • paper manual doesn't explain much, go watch youtube install guide
