Most Helpful Positive Review Don’t believe the gunflakes
I was hesitant at first because I believed the reviews that said it was a phony... this is NOT! I bought one for my SOCOM 16, now I’m buying one for my full sized M1A. I can’t afford a SAGE, this will definitely compare if I ever can. It’s not “cool” and it’s not super expensive, but holy F! It ...

Most Helpful Negative Review Lesser quality than I expected
Disappointed. I was trying to save weight. A battle rifle like an M1A needs something more sturdy. The thing could never be effective for a butt to a jaw bone....i went back to my original stock. I would like to send it back...

Optics Planet - Great! ProMag - Bad

by JD, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on December 12, 2025
I have many years of experience with the M14 and M1A. Recently purchased a new $1700 M1A Loaded/Precision with the ProMag/Archangel Precision Rifle Stock (PRS). I found the PRS stock to be too heavy, so purchased the awesome Archangel CQB stock from Optics Planet (great price, great service). Took the PRS stock off the M1A and tried to install on the CQB stock. Barrel and receiver fit perfectly, but even after a 2 hour battle, the trigger group would not seat in the CQB stock (should take 30 seconds to install). During the battle I had to repeatedly pry the trigger group out of the stock with a flat blade screwdriver - did I mention this is a new $1700 rifle? Turned to YouTube for answers and found out that Archangel stocks shrink unless they ship with a removable "Fitting Block" installed in the stock. This was in current and 10 years old videos. Even though the CQB stock I ordered came in a new factory tamper proof package, there was NO fitting block. After a week returned the CQB stock to Optics Planet. BUT it gets better - when I tried re-install the trigger group back into the original/new PRS stock, the trigger group would not fit. Contacted ProMag and they are sending me a Fitting Block for me to install and stretch the stock. PROMAG - every new Archangel stock should be sold with an installed Fitting Block - DUH!!!!
Pros:
  • CQB stock - Great Design
Cons:
  • PROMAG's failure to service the customer

Love it ...but

by Nicky, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on October 25, 2025
Unlike a lot of people I don't mind a file fitment, but it took about 8 hours of filing and test fit until the action was cycling by hand perfectly. If you wanna swap out the OEM stock for something better or lighter you are gonna have a problem because I haven't found one that will fit without milling. Other that that looks and feels great. Slapped some paint on it yesterday.
Pros:
  • Looks good
  • Heavy Duty and Durable
Cons:
  • Not drop in
  • Fitment is a bother
Best Used for:
  • SOCOM 16

Nice change up

by John Youhouse, from TN, United States Written on August 11, 2025
This stock is a very tight fit. I was able to fit two of these with a little oil and patience. No sanding involved. Purchased sling and two QD sling adapters from Midway and balanced the weapon by placing one on each side of the stock. Remove cheek piece to use iron sights.

poor fitting on socom and scout.

by david, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on February 24, 2025
First off the action or trigger group would not even go into the stock. I had to file quite a bit to get it to seat. After I got it in the trigger group set too far into the stock causing the bolt to rub so bad I could not the action to open. I had to poor epoxy into the trigger group cut out to raise it out about 1/16" Now I can cycle but wonder if during shooting it will rub and cause malfunctions. After getting the stock on the rifle I really dont like the large flat surfaces on both sides around the middle. Would have been nice if some contours or something were added there. Also the weight is pretty heavy. I thought this was going to be very light and help lighter up the rifle but it is about the same weight as the synthetic stock with the hardware on the butt. One more thing is that I had to angle the area on the bottom where the M1A wings are located. The stock was cut flat and would not let the action seat into the stock enough to allow the trigger group to close and lock up. Once I cut the angle on the stock I could get it to close. Took about 2 hours to get it all on seemingly working. I am amaze if SA uses this on the CQC socom without any fitting.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • heavier than I thought, poor fit

Doesn't fit

by Joseph Corona, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on July 20, 2024
It's not a perfect fit for my m1a socom 16. I'm having trouble fitting it. I'm shaving off parts and sanding at the moment. Still can't get it to fit.

poorly fitted

by Richard Armstrong, Verified Owner from OR, United States Written on March 14, 2024
Would have had to remove about a 1/8” material from at least 3 areas.

The maker could’ve made it a better fit without any trouble.

Really nice but with caveat

by None, Verified Owner from OK, United States Written on March 9, 2024
This stock is really solid and I would recommend it, but you have to know it isn’t as simple as dropping in. At least not for me. The fit was REALLY tight. I had to fit it in order to get it to go.
Pros:
  • solid
  • Looks
  • Ergonomics
Cons:
  • fitment
