Mike Massey's Review of ProMag Archangel Savage Precision Elite Stock

After putting 8 of these on both long and short action Savage rifles, in 30-06, 308. 6.5CM, 270 and 223 calibers, I think I can offer some helpful advice to perspective buyers. I don’t usually take time to rate products, but the ratings for this product on Optics Planet are deceptive. (1) There is no competing product that even comes close to these stocks unless you want to spend 3 to 4 times the price and get a modern adjustable aluminum stock. They are a pound lighter weight and I love them, but if you spend that much you might as well buy a new rifle with one already on it. (2) Half of my installations have required some custom fitting with a dremel tool. If you have any mechanical aptitude at all, it is a very simple 30 to 90 minute project. When you have the action off the stock, you can easily adjust you Accutrigger. I really like Savage 110/10, 111/11 rifles. Not so much the Axis rifles. If you are over 6 feet tall, I think you will absolutely love these stocks. When you remove one of the flimsy plastic stocks off a Savage rifle and install one of these, you will add about a pound of weight to it. So if you are going to hike mountains all day on foot, you might want to spend more money and get a lighter setup. You can make these stocks fit like a glove and I love them, especially at the price. I have tested these guns with various quality ammo and have never seen any degraded accuracy after installing one of these stocks. With good factory ammo 0.5 MOA is what I like. In one installation, I gained accuracy because the cheap factory stock was slightly warped and touching the barrel. Hope this helps.
Pros:
  • Exceptional dollar value
Cons:
  • may require some fitting to install
  • may require simple fitting
Best Used for:
  • non weight critical guns
