Pricey but very, very good. Take the time to study the manual to get full benefit of the capabilities; I've only scratched the surface of the capabilities but I am impressed. Using thermal to locate animals or people is nice! Pitch black, no moon, I could not see a friend standing just 20 meters away; with thermal they stood out like a blaze of fire. No one is going to hide from you in the dark using these. With no zoom, small critters (rabbits, skunks, cats) are easily identifiable out to 50-60 meters. With zoom, identification is further. Critters trying to hide in a tree? No problem in locating them even in heavy foliage. Without zoom, livestock easily detectable at >850 meters. The "zoomed picture" in the unzoomed picture is excellent in theory and practice; use the unzoomed portion for situational awareness and zoomed portion to better identify the item of interest. Works well in full dark and twilight conditions; there may be a time of thermal transition where the binoculars may not work as well but I would expect it to be no more than a few minutes. I'm using the binoculars intermittently for several minutes at a time and am still on the first battery charge.
If I had a do over, I would purchase these again.
