Amazing Thermal... with added bonus... Picture in Picture

by Unofficial Gun Addict, from ID, United States Written on June 4, 2016
I looked at so many youtube videos and reviews on thermal prior to deciding to go with the Pulsar Apex that my wife was getting annoyed with me! Ha! Being a night coyote hunter here in Idaho, I really wanted something that would give me a little bit of extended range as sometimes there isn't much cover and longer shots are required. This unit definitely helps me get out there.... 375 yards is my longest night shot to date and it dropped in it's tracks. I'm very impressed with the unit. The resolution/magnification is a joy and being able to know exactly what I'm looking at is extremely useful. The main reason I chose the Pulsar Apex units over others was their 3 year warranty... vs typical 1 or 2... and that the engineers at Pulsar included Picture in Picture. This feature alone swung me over. When multiple mutts come in... I can use the top window & crosshair to refine/zoom my shot... while using the main screen to then reacquire the runners after I drop the first one... and shoot using the main crosshair. One might think it would be too busy or distracting perhaps... but it isn't and works like a charm. The only thing I would change on this unit is that the buttons on top for power/calibration/pip are tough to feel when using gloves (which I normally do hunting at night in the fall and winter). It's a small thing... but I'd definitely recommend they resolve this by putting bigger risers infront of each button so they can be easily found without looking in total dark...
