The standard battery pack (IPS 5) is good for several hours depending on your usage/features; etc. I wanted a spare battery that would last much longer if I was without the charger. The IPS 10 is quite a bit bigger and heavier; not twice; but close. It sticks out well past the body of the Trail. 3/4"? That's ok with me as this is a last resort back-up. I used it 2-3 hours one night and appears I used about 1/4 - 1/3 of the reserve. Will not know unless I run it till dead. I am happy with it for it's intended use. Price was not much more than the standard battery. And they warned of the larger size.

- long hunt; or back-up
