Abu Akbar's Review of Pulsar Trail XP50 1.6-12.8x42mm Thermal Imaging Rifle Scope

I have wanted to purchase a thermal imaging sight for a number of years and finally decided it was time to get one. After much research, and a recommendation, I looked into the Pulsar products and found the XP50 to be the best choice. I was mostly concerned with having an item that I could clearly identify targets out to 200 yards, which I feel is my maximum effective shooting range. This product far exceeds my expectations. I can easily locate targets well past 800 yards; I've not been in a position to look much farther, and can very easily identify targets at 300 yards, probably much farther. The built in WiFi along with the app works great and was a big factor in me picking this product. Since I could not afford two sights, connecting this sight to my iPad or a phone allows both me and my son to see what the sight is seeing which keeps it fun for both of us. We've already used the sight a number of times while driving down the road, not attached to my rifle, just to check fields to see what is there. The iPad connection works great for this, allowing us both to see what is out there. Controls are easy to use once you understand how they work. We had a little trouble getting sighted in, it took a few more rounds than we expected, but once we understood the process, it has been no problem adjusting the sight as we've tried different ammo. The internal recording works great and is a nice feature. The rechargeable battery has a long life and is a much better choice than using disposable batteries. I am very happy with my decision to go with the Pulsar XP50 and would highly recommend this product to others.
Pros:
  • three year warranty
  • easily identify targets within my shooting range
  • controls easy to use once clearly understood
  • locate game well past shooting range
  • rechargeable battery with long life

  • creates its own WiFI connection to iPad or phone with use of app
Cons:
  • instructions a little hard to follow - took some time to understand all functions
  • no sound on recordings
  • expensive, comparable to similar models
Best Used for:
  • viewing game
  • shooting targets such as coyotes, hogs or whatever
