chic's Review of Pulsar Quantum HD19A 30Hz 640x480 Thermal Imaging Monocular w/ 2x Digital Zoom
A nice little thermal viewer. The ergonomics are well done. It comes with a nice pouch and a spare battery holder (which is good since it's a unique removable style). The only things I don't like are the narrow 20 degree field of view and the screen leaving a lot of black space in the eyepiece. An eyepiece that seals around the eye a little better would be nice. I have another thermal viewer that has a 36 degree field of view that seems much more natural. Outside, 20 degrees would not be too bad, but inside, there is no peripheral vision. The screen looks like you are viewing a 2x3 inch screen 3-4 inches in front of your eye, rather than filling the field of view (admittedly, with the narrow field, you wouldn't want it to fill your eye's field of view). Like all thermal devices, there is a warm-up and calibrations. Scanning (more necessary with the narrow field of view) freezes when it re-calibrates, but you can change when it does that. For those not familiar with thermal, it can be used day or night, but is best when the surroundings are a significantly different temperature than the target. Obviously, it's more fantastic to be able to see at night.
