.458 Socom Upper... IT'S TRASH, -=AND=- DO NOT ask for help from Radical "Customer Service".
I wish I didn't have to give Radical any stars at all... Radical didnt even earn one star.
I bought a new Radical Firearms upper in .458 Socom, when it arrived it had a large area (roughly 8") where the finish was messed up, Rather than being all black, it was various shades of light purple to darker shades of purple, and a upper that completely FAILED 98% FTL AND 90% FTE, the bottom 3 lugs/feed ramp are WAY WAY out of spec (so far out of spec, that one of the lugs is being torn off on one side by the lugs on the bolt, and the bottom 3 locking lugs are too tall and one of them is even to wide (you dont even need a mic to see the problems) to the side of that lug is being torn away by the locking lugs on the bolt,, also, the feed ramp lugs where actually shaving brass off the case necks every time it tried to load a round, shaving is the right word, the shaved area on the case necks is about a 1/8 wide, and about 3/16 long on the neck of the case, the cases are Starline cases and FACTORY loaded ammo, clearly the Quality Control somehow missed this problem.
ALL ammo was factory loads, from 300gr. to 500gr. HP's, RN, Flat Nose. (ammo was mic'ed, all are in spec).
After sending 3 emails, still no reply 12 working days later, I called Radical CS, when Customer Service answered, the ONLY thing he said was "what?" in a clearly annoyed/angry demeanor, in what was a ridiculously loud tone as well (is no one else around him hearing this? REALLY?), the conversation was so far out of ...

Incomplete from the factory
This is the 3rd Radical upper receiver that I've bought, my 2nd .458. I haven't had issues until this .458 socom upper came in. The chamber was too small, not allowing the shell to seat completely. I had to make a lapping tool out of a dummy round of ammo and use lapping compound to get it accept and seat the ammo properly. Then...I had trouble with the feed ramps. Every round that I tried to feed through would get caught halfway. It's common to have to break feed ramps in by running a few rounds through it. After running about 200 rounds through by hand, it's finally starting to smooth out a bit. I had to do it manually because I can't afford $3 a round just to get the gun to operate correctly. I used a brand new Anderson lower on this build. And I did swap out uppers and lowers to make sure that it wasn't another part causing all the problems. On top of everything I've been through with this gun...the ejection port wasn't opened up all the way. It had only been milled out halfway around, so the spent brass would hang up in it until I dremelled it out. I should be on the payroll of Radical Firearms after getting this thing to operate like it should have from the factory.
Pros:
- None
Cons:
- Lots of hours to make it work correctly
Best Used for:
- Making me creative enough to solve issues
