Accurate and Reliable

by jmick, from MN, United States Written on January 17, 2025
I've had the 308 version with a 16 inch barrel for over 2 years and have put approx 1,000 rounds through the rifle and it is EXCELLENT, and is now one of my favorite hunting and shooting rifles. I've seen complaints in the forums with accuracy and reliability but I've never experienced either. During the 200 round break in period I experienced about half a dozen jams with cheap Winchester white box ammo (155 grains). After that period and a good cleaning it has run flawlessly. Mine likes factory Federal 175 grain Terminal Ascent and Barnes 150 TTSX loads. Both are excellent choices for hunting, which is what I use the rifle for. With the 16 inch barrel I'm getting approx 2400 FPS at the muzzle with the 175 grain Terminal Ascents. With the high BC of that bullet it's a 400 yard elk gun with good shot placement. Shot 2 elk at 250 yards this fall and both shots were double lung with full pass through and excellent internal damage. Recoil is VERY mild with the brake and I can shoot a couple of boxes at the bench with no discomfort. I've run it with a Banish 30 suppressor at the lowest gas setting and it feeds reliably every time, no jams. I turn it up to gas setting #2 without a suppressor (brake attached) and that also feeds very reliably. It comes set at the strongest gas setting from the factory so be sure to adjust that after the initial break in. My worst groups are 1.5 - 2.0 inches with cheap ammo it doesn't like. 3-shot groups with Barnes 150 gr TTSX's and 175 Grain Termin...
