Good holster for the money.

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on October 24, 2011
I bought this for a Sig P220 compact since the shortened barrel made it difficult to find a production holster to fit it I went with the belt slide design. The holster is well made and holds its shape. Safariland went overboard with retention however. The pistol was extremely difficult to draw due to the molded section around the trigger guard. To remedy this I popped out the concave leather that gripped the trigger guard into a convex shape and placed a piece of plastic to hold it in this shape overnight. The leather conformed to this shape and now provides a normal draw, not excessively difficult while still providing retention. I wish that it came with a slide guard like the discontinued full coverage open top safariland concealment holsters. The belt loops are cut wide but the holster stays put. When I placed my Sig in the holster you can still see the back of the trigger so technically it does not completely cover the trigger guard. My Sig is SAO so this isn't a huge deal for me and I cannot attest to how this holster will work for other models of guns, but if you carry something without a safety it is something you should consider. If you find yourself looking for a slide holster this will do the trick after some simple modification. Just remember that the slide holster will not protect the exposed slide of the pistol and you will see increased wear compared to a full holster.
Pros: Well made. Simple,
Cons: Excessively difficult draw, no slide guard.
