Excellent quality, good fit

I ordered this holster for my Ruger SR1911 with a 5" barrel, adjustable sight, and ambi safety. The holster fits perfectly and holds the pistol securely. It is well made, sturdy, and has a good appearance. It is probably too bulky for concealed carry for most people, but so is the pistol. I use this same model holster with my S&W M&P, and in that size, it could conceivably be used for concealed carry under a jacket. I only use it for open carry in the field or at the range.

Note that the holster is open at the bottom (muzzle), so it may not be suitable for heavy rough field use where dirt could get in the muzzle. For that kind of use, a military style holster with a flap and covered muzzle would be better.

The holster barely clears the 1911 pistol's thumb safety, but you shouldn't be touching the thumb safety until the pistol is free of the holster anyway. If your pistol has a large (wide) custom thumb safety, it might not fit into this holster without rubbing against the safety. I know some shooters learned to swipe the safety off when you first grip the pistol in the holster, but this is safer. Besides, your thumb is going to be busy holding the release lever back at the beginning of your draw. This is only an issue for those who carry cocked and locked.

The holster uses a concealed thumb activated lever to give level 1 retention. I found the release lever difficult to operate, because it required more strength than my 71 year old thumb could muster. Maybe with ...
