What justifies spending over $400 for a bipod, especially when the rifle has an accessory rail underneath the forend? The answer is fundamental. In order to reliably hit the target (any target) the shooter must deal with recoil in a consistent manner. Designing a bipod where the axis of the bore is only ~17mm above the pivot point goes a long way towards assuring that the rifle recoils in the same manner shot after shot, especially with heavy optics. In addition, the unit is "militarily robust", very rigid with simple positive stops.
