Rich's Review of SEAL 1 CLP Gun Care Plus Kit

I cannot attest to the viability of the product post cleaning yet since I have used it only once, but I used liquid (more like an orange goo) to clean my SW M&P Shield and my wife, by my side, cleaned her Ruger LC380. My weapon had about 300 rounds through it since it's last cleaning, resulting in my first FTE with the Shield in over 700 rounds due to the glut of carbon built up around the battery.

The product is actually pleasant smelling. It is very oily to feel, which gave me pause that I would really have a mess and I'd have to work to clean all this goo off. The bottle has an internal cap, a nice little feature, that stops up the bottle, likely keeping it from running out all over your range bag should you desire to take it along.

The "C" part: Cleaning. I used it liberally, as it recommends, loading up the brush and applying it to all the surfaces inside the slide, the lower receiver and with a bore brush, gave the barrel a heaping dose. Using a cotton swab I also hit the 'problem areas' with a dose: Striker seat, muzzle and action. I let the product sit for about 10 minutes on all surfaces.

I started swabbing the slide and the carbon was just melting away. It truly does just eat away at the carbon. Used a rag to wipe down all the easily accessed surfaces and a few cotton pads to get in and tidy up the close areas. This stuff is great.

I grabbed my barrel, ran the brush through again and on the other end a giant blob of black goo emerged. Promising I thought and I ran a couple patches after it. Squeaky. We all know the feed ramp takes a beating and not only did any carbon residue just seem to bubble off (didn't really bubble, but great description right?) the brass wiped off as well. My feed ramp actually looks like someone polished it! Definitely felt like it.

Cleaning the receiver, sear, striker seat was just as effortless! My sear glistens in the low light of my garage.
I stayed in the garage this time. Next time, after I apply and scrub with a brush, I'll move indoors. (I get a little aggressive, just like my tooth brushing, and tend to spray droplets everywhere). This stuff doesn't smell foul and will not make your house smell foul.

One thing I did notice, it cleans off your hands well. No residue. Do that before you start your final wipe down. The "L" part of CLP is there for sure. Yes it feels oily, and I used a clean rag to wipe all surfaces, but It seemed like my weapon would be forever oily after using it. I still applied standard gun oil to the rails for smooth operation of the slide. I wouldn't consider ever not doing that even with this product. This morning when I strapped it on, I pulled it out to check expecting to really grip a slippery fish: It's clean, It's dry, It's beautiful.

I can't wait to see if the "P" portion, protect, works out. The claim is continued use will seal and protect your firearm, therefore making subsequent cleanings easier.

Highly recommend this product.
