Recon's Review of SureFire XC1 Ultra-Compact LED Handgun Light

As a super fan of SureFire, I was really excited about this product. I know that I was late in buying the XC1 but only because I have a X300U for all my duty weapons and I carried a SureFire Defender as my EDC light with my EDC handgun. Now, it took me a while to get used to carrying a x300U appendix carry, but not, its like I dont even know it's there. The only problem with that is my EDC is a Glock 19, the x300U would stick out, which meant more "poking" in my groin region from appendix carry. The XC1 made appendix carry so much more easier because it is flush with the frame and barrel of Glock 19 but is also lightweight. It provides a 200 Lumen beam will disorient a threat to you during low light and darkness. It was easy to install, easy to place battery inside battery housing and semi-easy to operate. The only problem I have with the light is the constant ON and OFF needs to be pressed in to keep it while the "paddle triggers" are only a push down to activate momentarily.

I noticed that with the x300U, if I draw my firearm, I could still manipulate the weaponlight with my index finger but this does not apply to XC1. Another draw back is if you do have to draw one handed and take a firing stance, I noticed that my finger were not long enough to activate constant on so it seems your support hand it always have to reach and break your grip in order to achieve constant ON. Other than these two issues, I love the light and I love that many companies are now making kydex holsters that will accommodate the G17 and G19 with its different caliper relatives. I truly recommend this light only for EDC or everyday carry on a handgun with rail that will accept this light.
Pros:
  • bright light
  • Lightweight, yet sturdy
  • 1 AAA battery
  • 200 lumens, enough to disorient a threat
  • Many holster options
Cons:
  • support hand needs to reach further to activate constant ON
  • The light is triggered only with downward pressing motion as opposed to X300U, which can be manipulated by individual instructors
Best Used for:
  • EDC
