E's Review of SGM Tactical Muzzle Brake Saber Boss 12ga Saiga & Vepr

I recently got a Saiga 12 type shotgun, so after doing some thinking I ended up buying a few accessories for it, like this muzzle brake. I like the looks of it, looks good on the shotgun, added weight is negligible.

Not sure if the jagged end is intended to do anything - might be good for "breaching" doors, I guess...or maybe if your using it for home defense you could use it for scratching the miscreants after exhausting your ammunition. For those of you who are really in tune with your gun, maybe you'll feel a difference in the "braking", I don't know. I didn't, but despite my sarcasm I like the jagged edge, I like the way it looks. Again, I realize it may be useless or impractical, but I don't care.

As for the the "braking" performance of this item, I can feel a little bit of a difference. I don't shoot a lot, but others who are shooting aficionados, and who are more in tune with your weapon, you may or may not feel more of a difference. Maybe I'll feel more of a difference after shooting with it for a while, and then going without it. I don't know. This is not a negative, though, because I have similar experiences with all muzzle brakes. I'd attribute this perceived lack of braking more to my lack of shooting experience, and not necessarily to this item.

I never had a muzzle brake on a shotgun before, so my primary concern was any issues that might occur shooting shot shells through this. I was worried that those little holes on this brake might catch pellets as they exited the muzzle and maybe deflecting. I have not noticed any issues. Beware that there are muzzle brakes that have disclaimers on the package advising owners what they should/shouldn't shoot in their shotgun with the particular muzzle brake attached. I saw no such disclaimers on this item. But still I'm wary.

With muzzle brakes, the shooter, or others to the left/right of the shooter, may realize increased noise and muzzle blast. I haven't used this with others around, but I haven't noticed any increase in noise/pressure. More sensitive shooters may notice something, but I didn't.

This muzzle brake seems a little on the expensive side, especially since I'm not sure how much "braking" this brake is doing. But I have no regrets, I'm still happy with this purchase, no regrets - I like this muzzle brake.

Bottom line is I have nothing negative to say about this muzzle brake. I like it, it's on my shotgun right now, and I have no intention of taking it off. Just beware that if you decide to buy this item you may not feel a drastic braking effect, but then again you might. I recommend this muzzle brake.
Pros:
  • This muzzle brake looks good
Cons:
  • Braking effect may be minimal
