I got one of these Shakespear " Barbie" batecast rod & reel because my 7 year old grand-daughter wanted it !! It worked for a little while then started to "act" up ! It will not retrieve a fish if it puts up a fight ! The line will not pull tight when you crank it in like a regular fishing reel. My grand-daughter got fed up after a-while as I also did . The line would not go back onto the reel so I opened it and seen it had wrapped around the center nut that holds the spool in place.Fixed it, tried it again and the same thing happened again. $21.95 + tax out the window , so we went to another store and I found that they ALL did the same thing !! Cheap junk for little kids...shame on Shakespear !!! I have big rods & reels from Shakespear with no problem , but these little sets are junk.
