George Brown's Review of Sharps Bros. Heatseeker Ruger American Ranch Chassis w/14in Handguard

When they first came out I purchased a Ruger American Ranch Rifle chambered for 350 Legend and fell in love with the cartridge and the rifle. Absolutely a tack driving combination, but I did not like the AR magazines. As usual I cannot leave things alone so I purchased an MDT LSS-XL Gen2 chassis for AICS magazine use with the Ruger American rifles. Even though Ruger makes a rifle that uses AI mags with the 350 Legend, it is not based on the American model and the factory will tell you AI magazines won't work, even though they sell them. They also sell conversion parts for their stocks to change to AICS magazines as well, but they will also tell you these won't work with the 350 Legend. I never listen and did it all anyway. To my extreme disappointment, they were all correct about the incompatibility and I wasted two years trying to make adjustments so that it would function reliably, all to no avail. In the end I regretted not buying the MDT LSS-XK Gen2 that IS designed for the Ruger American 350 legend with AR magazines in the first place. By now two things have happened; Ruger has come out with their Ruger American Gen2 rifles that has a minor change with the safety that renders them no longer compatible with the original MDT LSS-XL Gen2 chassis and second, the AR version of the MDT LSS-XL Gen2 chassis is currently unavailable for a yet to be determined time frame into the future. So Next, Voila! I discovered the Sharps Bros Heatseeker Chassis on Optics Planet for Ruger American AR magazine calibers AND the price is $200 less than the MDT model, assuming any could be found anyway... So now my solution for my existing Ruger American 350 Legend is solved AND I already have a chassis for the Ruger American Gen2 22 ARC I keep wanting. Win/Win!
Pros:
  • Perfect fit and finish, replicates OEM stock perfectly
  • Already compatible with Ruger American Gen 2 rifles in AR calibers
Cons:
  • None that I have noticed
Best Used for:
  • everything
