BoltGunner's Review of Shellback Tactical Rampage 2.0 Plate Carrier

I come from several years operating as a Marine Scout Sniper, currently employed as a city SWAT operator/Sniper, and a self proclaimed “gear qu***”. Needless to say, I’ve wasted an unfortunate amount of money on gear to perfect what’s worth a hoot. Due to some unforeseen budgeting issues in armor for my current team, I took it upon myself to buy my own carrier and armor. Our policy requires 360degree 3A soft armor and Level 4 plates.

First off, buying armor from Shellback makes it very convenient with a chart, notifying you what type and size of soft armor to buy with the perspective plate carrier to take out the guess work.

The carrier is made sleek enough for SWAT work utilizing maximum protection and gear real estate without a bunch of wasted material impeding you.

The love/hate that I have for this carrier is the placard system. The placard is laser cut MOLLE with 2 clips and Velcro backing for secure attachment. Problem: the clip system for the placard cannot be removed and is exclusive to Shellback as far as I can tell, and individual clips can’t be purchased. So the carrier may not accept any other placards or rigs that you might own. However, individual placards can be purchased for around 12$ which is convenient for me. As a sniper I’m able to prep a second placard with .308 mags, which can be easily swapped and mounted onto the same carrier without the use of bulky chest rigs or having to go through the pain of remounting pouches.

In conclusion, I’m more than happy with my purchase of this carrier system and it’s abilities. The Rampage 2.0 is very compatible for real world application as a SWAT operator or anyone that needs comfort and mobility without sacrificing protection.
