Most Helpful Positive Review A beefy Romeo5 with AAA battery and great reticle
I was wondering what happened to the original Romeo5 XDR series that took AAA batteries. This one is every bit as beefy, and it has the feature that the original XDR didn't have: a battery compartment that actually threads in straight, and can be opened and closed without marring the knurling (if you have an original XDR you know my pain). Romeo5 is the best budget red dot, period. This is the next logical step forward in its evolution, and I love it. Now who wants to buy a bunch of original R5's? :) Also OP....please release an OPMOD FDE version!

Super Impressive, but buy the combo with magnifier if shooting long distances and save money!

by Bob, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on January 22, 2026
I was genuinely blown away by these optics. I own several red dot sights, and these are simply in a different class. The option to switch between a single red dot or the dot-and-circle reticle is a game changer—once you use it, it’s hard to imagine going back to a basic dot. One of my biggest frustrations with other optics is having to manually power them on and off, but that’s a non-issue here. These activate automatically when you raise the firearm, which is incredibly convenient. Brightness performance is outstanding, whether in harsh daylight or near-total darkness. On top of that, the optic looks sleek, stealthy, and downright impressive on a fully built carbine. I mounted mine on an M4 Sons of Liberty 5.56 straight out of the box and was nearly dialed in after just two shots at 50 yards, with only minor adjustments needed—fine-tuning at 20 yards was just as easy. Keep in mind, these are zero-power optics, so longer distances can be challenging without magnification. I strongly recommend purchasing the combo with the Joliet magnifier. Chances are it’ll be your next upgrade anyway, and buying the bundle saves money in the long run.
Pros:
  • lighweight
  • Clarity & construction
  • Ease Of Use
  • Ease of install
  • cool appearance
Cons:
  • None so far
Best Used for:
  • M4 Carbine

Better with the circle

by Davern, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on November 15, 2025
I have really enjoyed my Romeo 5 on my AR15. Easy to install, great aperture and I thought the red dot was the way to go simple and accurate. I was wrong. This Romeo 5 has all of that and the circle draws my eye to the red dot. It has made picking up the dot effortless. Optics continue to be excellent rain or shine, snow or heat. The only reason I give it a 4 is I am nervous about using a AAA battery in it.
Pros:
  • easy to install
  • Great aperture
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Fast target acquisition

This dot out of the box was pretty close to zero. It took minor adjustment to get there. Did well on the ar. Went through 500 rds for it's 1st run. I'm looking to purchase another Romeo 5.

Super easy to install on my lever action .357, adjusts easily when sighting in, and its weight isn’t noticeable even all the way to the front of the rifle! Might get another for my Glock

Love the circle dot

I have grown to prefer the circle dot reticle. This site provides my preferred reticle at a lower price point than the comparable Holosun. So far, performance has exceeded expectation.
