wyoming guy's Review of SIG SAUER Kilo2000 7x25mm Laser Range Finding Monocular
After having this rangefinder for 2 weeks, I am totally amazed. I was skeptical of the claims and I needed something to range for hunting purposes out to 1500 yards or so, but I simply can't afford a G7 BR2 which is what I truly wanted. Well, now I don't need one.
Bright light, overcast, doesn't matter, this thing ranges. I'm able to range soft targets such as animals and small sage brush out to 1500 or farther, trees and building and rocks, reflective things well over 2000. Inside of 1200, I can range literally anything, and almost always get that range in under a second. It's so fast! On scan mode it gives you a different reading while moving across terrain about every half a second, maybe faster, and it will do that well over 1000 yards.
I haven't reached the advertised 3400 yard reflective target range yet, but I have ranged buildings in the 2500 yard range multiple times. And honestly, I just wanted something that could give me a range on a rifle target inside 1600 or so, or animal inside 1200. This EASILY does that under ANY conditions.
In comparing, I would put this ahead of the lieca 1600b. On soft targets its similar in ranging, probably slightly better, especially once you get used to it, but on reflective targets, this beats it hands down. No this doesn't have ballistics, but anyone shooting farther than 400-500 yards should know that they need a custom ballistic solution anyway, not a preloaded one size fits all. And it's smaller and lighter than most rangefinders...A good point for those who like to hike in to their hunting spots. And it calibrates your shooting angle into the range it gives you, so no extra entries in your ballistic program or no number crunching.
Automatically adjusts brightness for ambient conditions, and it works well. On a treaty bright day with snow covering the ground the reticle was still easily visible, and doesnt drown out the target in low light conditions.
Honestly, short of a G7 BR2 or a Vectronix, I wouldn't trade this rangefinder for any other. Yes, a G7 is an amazing all in 1 unit (wish I had/could afford one), but with this, a kestrel and a good shooting app you are doing the same thing. It's so light, compact and powerful, does exactly what I need, and cost me under $500 on sale. For the savings of buying this over a G7, I saved $1300, enough to get a long ways on another custom rifle, or get a very nice piece of glass for one of my rifles.
Just FYI, I use this in conjunction with STRELOK app on my phone and a kestrel 4500N for awesome results. Would work well with any other good app, such as shooter or applied ballistics.
