OgLeo's Review of SIG SAUER Romeo7 1x30mm Red Dot Sight

I have read and seen a number of reviews comparing this optic to an Aimpoint but at a very competitive price. The Romeo7 was on sale here at Optics Planet so I decided to give it a try. It arrived quickly. I checked it out and it appeared to function much like the Aimpoint. I mounted it onto a new build and took it to the range. The mount was quick and positive. With a little adjustment, it zeroed quickly and easily. The graduation clicks and dials easily adjusted, but the adjustment caps were difficult to manipulate due to the cap retaining feature. The optic was at least as accurate as I am...lol. The optic is a bit on the heavy side but I did not notice the weight during use. The reticle on the Romeo7 was easy to pick up while shouldering the rifle. During drills at Close range, some with the front of the optic occluded, the optic allowed fast shouldering and accurate shot placement. My other rifles have either a Trijicon MRO or EoTech XPS mounted for comparison. I checked out the auto activation feature which worked as described and I really like it, I wish my EoTech had that. This rifle is a new build so this range trip was to function check and sight in the rifle. The upper is a new Colt 6920 with a Geissele BCG, Bravo Company charging handle and Magpul BUIS. I fired about 100 rounds, the first 50 rounds were a combination of rapid fire, short rapid bursts and slow fire, all with the optic mounted. I sighted the optic at about 50 rounds. The dot intensity was easily adjusted from very dim to very bright. For zeroing the optic, I use the dimmest level that I could easily see. A friend and I continued to shoot the optic and now he wants one too, we are just waiting for it to go on sale again. This optic performs as expected, no surprises. Time will tell its durability but I see no reason the Sig Sauer optic will have any issues. Operationally, it is very similar to the Aimpoint. As for long term durability, I will not even try to compare them. At about 1/4 the price of the Aimpoint, this optic was worth a try for me. So far, it performs well and looks like a great budget option. Of course, for duty use, I will still use an Eotech, you just can't beat that 65 MOA reticle for close quarters precision shots. I don't mind that I must change out that EoTech battery, at least annually.
